2009
- 1) Vision
- To become a trusted source to Government officials and policy creators on the business, education, collaboration, innovation, and partnership issues necessary for the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines.
- 2) Mission
- The mission of the BIO IT Coalition Government Affairs and Policy Committee is to provide Coalition members, elected officials, Bioscience and Information Technology and international organizations with current information on legislative and regulatory activities in the United States and abroad to better influence leadership decisions affecting the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines and how that convergence might lead to improvements in healthcare.
- 3) Objectives
- a) At the local, state and Federal levels:
- i) establish a comprehensive and analytical process, easily managed by Committee volunteers to gather, record, and store information on all legislative issues pertaining to the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines;
- ii) create a process for communicating issues pertaining to the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines to Coalition members, sponsors, alliances, and other Coalition participants through the establishment of a Government Affairs and Policy Committee section on the BIO IT Coalition website and contribute to the agenda of each of its monthly and annual meetings;
- iii) monitor and share news relating to key government influencers and policies, of interest to BIO IT members;
- iv) meet with targeted government officials and policy makers to introduce BIO IT Coalition and form relationships for future engagements;
- v) institute a protocol to communicate information on all legislative issues pertaining to the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines to sponsors, business leaders and elected officials upon their request, as determined by the Committee, or in support of a broader coalition mandate.
- 4) Goals
- a) At the local, state and Federal levels:
- i) remain informed on all legislative issues pertaining to the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines;
- ii) communicate information on all legislative issues pertaining to the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines to Coalition members, sponsors, alliances, and other Coalition participants at each of its monthly and annual meetings and through the BIO IT Coalition website;
- iii) communicate information on all legislative issues pertaining to the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines to sponsors, business leaders and elected officials upon their request, as determined by the Committee, or in support of a broader Coalition mandate;
- iv) develop long-term goals to broaden our entry into the global marketplace at the appropriate time;
- v) continue to establish goals as necessary.
- 5) Values
- a) The BIO IT Coalition Government Affairs and Policy Subcommittee respects:
- i) a free and open exchange of ideas, comments and criticisms necessary to achieve the mission of the Government Affairs and Policy Subcommittee in support of the overall BIO IT Coalition's mission;
- ii) the authority of elected and corporate governance officials and organizations, globally, to affect the convergence of the Bioscience and Information Technology disciplines; only through our respect for this authority will our message be readily accepted;
- iii) the ever changing global market and regulatory conditions and understand that only through flexibility can we adapt to changing needs.
